Out of Easy Reach Symposium Schedule, August 23-24
"Abstraction as a Strategy of Refusal"
The symposium (comprised of a keynote, curator-led tour of the exhibition, two-part panel discussion, and lunchtime roundtable) is meant to galvanize an interdisciplinary conversation hinging upon questions of abstraction and legibility for artists and scholars whose work engages with institutionalized notions of belonging, race, sexuality, and gender. In addition, the program aims to contribute to the growing interest on IU's campus in the politics and ethics of curating.
Visiting Participants: Allison Glenn (Curator), Bridget Cooks (Scholar), Steffani Jemison (Artist), Caroline Kent (Artist), Edra Soto (Artist), Ayanah Moor (Artist), Kellie Romany (Artist), Julie Rodrigues Widholm (Curator/DePaul Art Museum Director), Lorelei Stewart (Curator/Director Gallery 400).
