Queer Disorientations Film Festival presents Dirty Looks (April 23-25)
I am proud to announce that next week IU will be hosting Los Angeles-based arts curator Bradford Nordeen for a series of specially curated queer film and video screenings as well as a talk on the practice of film curation. The centerpiece of this event is an illustrated talk next Tuesday, April 24th, from 4-5:30 in the Media School Commons (the atrium of the school) that will explore the important relationship between queer arts curation, moving-image media, and activist practice.
If you have students working in any of these areas, please urge them to attend. This is a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from someone whose experience in curatorial practice has altered the way audiences encounter selective moving-image work in our media-saturated landscape. As a curator for institutions like the MoMa and The Broad, as well as the organizer of numerous pop-up events across the US, Nordeen has much to share on purposeful film circulation as a meaningful social practice.
The program also includes two screenings of queer experimental film and video from around the world, the first at IU Cinema on Monday April 23rd and 7 pm, and the second at the Moving-Image Archives Screening Room (in the basement of Wells Library) on Wednesday the 25th at 7 pm.
